Accreditation Status

Ellington University is proud to state that it has become accredited by HESA (Higher Education Services Association). HESA is an international accrediting body focusing its accreditation efforts on truly international, distance-based, and prior learning assessment institutions which grant credentials based upon the graduate’s previous career, military, life and educational experience. Ellington is proud to display its HESA accreditation certificate.

About HESA

HESA is a self-governing body and was formed by members of the Board of Trustees of University Services, an international society made up of learning institutions which dedicates its efforts on the furtherance of Prior Learning Assessment Credentials and to ensuring that the highest possible standards of excellence are met with regard to operational policies for member universities, colleges and theological seminaries.

About Accreditation in General

Accreditation is a term generally used to refer to an institution receiving validation of its operations and having met a set of standards promulgated by a governing board or society. Additionally, accreditation quite frequently requires that candidate institutions pass an “examination period” proffered by a reviewing body which confers “accreditation” status upon the member institution if they qualify.
Any institution, whether educational or not, can claim an accredited status. The designation of accredited status serves to provide assurance that an institution has been found to meet the particular accrediting agency’s requirements and criteria, and that the requirements and criteria are continuously met through periodic reviews, examinations and re-application. Additionally, the process of achieving accredited status promotes internal review by the candidate institution and increases operational responsibility and quality control.
Although HESA is an internationally recognized body, HESA is not recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation in Washington, DC, United States nor is it recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
