Evelyn has made progress recently in locating information about 19th century Gollins. Here is a November, 2002 request for more information:
I would like your advice, please on following up new American information. Today I found my relative Elias Gollin son of Rabbi Wolf Gollin on the CLDS site USA 1880 census for New York. Elias Gollin (now widowed) living with two daughters Emma born NY 1861 and Ada born NY 1866. For 70 years my father tried unsuccessfully to find out what became of Elias who was born London 1820 or 21 and married Emma Todd in Hackney Parish Church 22 Aug 1854 following which he was cut off by the family. I am so pleased to have found Elias.Can anyone in USA suggest what I should do now to trace Elias and his daughters further. I would like to know if Elias had other children and when his wife Emma (born Todd) died?
I also found my great uncle Walter W Gollin and his American wife Julia (born Bell 1851 CA) on the USA 1880 census in San Francisco, but listed under the name Gollen. Julia's parents were born PA, USA. They both died childless. Please could you add this to your site and suggest what else I can do to follow up the story of Elias.
