The first day will deal with E687 analysis. Saturday will be devoted to E831. On Friday, the meeting will begin at 10 am in the Hornets Nest, WH11W. On Saturday we will start at 9 am and we will meet also in the Hornet's nest. Here is the agenda for the Friday as it currently exists: ================================================================== name: Joe Swiatek topic: hopefully final stages of the lambda3pi analysis estimated time: 20-25 min special requirements: speak at top of the order Fri. morning <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> Major points of the lambda3pi/pkpi branching ratio analysis will be reviewed: cut selection, signal presentation, and systematic studies. An estimate of the systematic errors will be presented, as will the effects of momentum- dependent efficiency calculations on the branching ratio. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- name: Barbara Caccianiga topic: "Ds--> Eta pi and Ds-->Eta' pi" estimated time: 15 min. special requirements: none <<<<<<<>>>>>> I will give a short description of the status of my analysis on Ds decays to Eta pi and Eta' pi. In particular, I will talk about 1) Ds-->Eta pi with Eta-->pi+pi-pi0 2) Ds-->Eta' pi with Eta'-->Eta pi+pi- Eta-->gamma gamma 3) Ds-->Eta' pi with Eta'-->Eta pi+pi- Eta-->pi+pi-pi0 In all three cases I fully reconstruct the event with the help of both IE and OE calorimeters. I will show a possible evidence (?!) for a Ds peak in cases 2) and 3). --------------------------------------------------------- name: Gabriele Gianini topic: Multiplicity Studies on Low Bias data estimated time: 30 minutes special requirements: Some preliminar results of the study of the multiplicity distribution shape for E687 data are reported. The available data sample consists of about 300,000 inelastic non single diffractive events, skimmed from the set of 3 million low bias triggers taken during the 91 run. As a preliminar approach, the study is bounded to the portion of data with tagged beam energy between 100 and 200 GeV/c (about 150,000 events). The uncorrected charged multiplicity distribution in the high acceptance pseudorapidity window 4-5.5 has been determined. The response function of the detector along with the event detection efficiency relative to the selection criteria have been estimated. The behaviour of the matching routine and its influence on the estimate is discussed. ---------------------------------------------------- name: Gianluigi Boca topic: Omegac lifetime analysis. estimated time: 30 min special requirements: Further work has been requested on various aspects of this analysis. ------------------------------------------------------------ name: Rob Gardner topic: More on post hoc corrections estimated time: 30 min We investigate the implied post-hoc correction for soft pions from D* decay assuming simple arguments for spin/iospin population of charm states and PDG94 D* branching ratios. The study says these soft pions suffer a fate similar to that of normal charm daughters. We also discuss the linking efficiency and microstrip resolution. ---------------------------------------------- name: Rob Gardner topic: Production asymmetry & energy partitioning model estimated time: 45 min We examine the charm production asymmetry predicted by Lund when different models for the energy partitioning among nucleon remnants are used. A preliminary study indicates that a model based on counting rules, is favored by the data. --------------------------------------------------- name: Gary Grim topic: Ds -> K+,pi-,pi+ estimated time: 45 minutes special requirements: That either the damn mailer gets fixed so I only get one copy of each of your mails or I double my talk time! <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> Measurements of singly Cabibbo suppressed $D_s^+$ decays using the $K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}$ final state are presented. A first observation of the decay $D_s^+ \rightarrow K^+\pi^-\pi^+$ along with a measurement of the ratio $\Gamma(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}) /\Gamma(D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow \phi \pi^+) = 0.29 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.05$. Searches for $D_s^+ \rightarrow K^{*0} \pi^+$, and $K^+\rho^0$ decays have resulted a branching ratio, and upper limits, at $90\%$ confidence level, of $\Gamma(D_s^+ \rightarrow K^{*0}\pi^+)/\Gamma(D_s^+ \rightarrow \phi \pi^+) = 0.18 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.03 < 0.28$, and $\Gamma(D_s^+ \rightarrow K^{+}\rho^0)/\Gamma(D_s^+ \rightarrow \phi \pi^+) < 0.052$. ------------------------------------------ name: W.Johns topic: Improvements to the muon ID estimated time: 20 min. special requirements: none I will discuss using the HC and muon scintillator paddles to recover muons lost during the 1990 and 1991 running. ---------------------------------------------- name: Ky Kim topic: Evidence of the Xi_c0 -> Lambda K- 3pi / Lambda K_S 2pi decay modes estimated time: 20 mins special requirements: None <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> A very priminary study of the Xi_c0 -> Lambda K- 3pi / Lambda K_s 2pi decay modes will be presented. ---------------------------------------------- Name: D. Menasce Subject: More studies on D+, Ds+ --> 3pi Dalitz Est. time: 15 min Special requirements: <<<>>>> I have entirely redone the 3pi Dalitz analysis with the SDVERT, starting from the global vertex skim, obtaining results in agreement with Rodney's data: this study has been done in order to have an important cross check within the helicity formalism I have employed. The results, however show a non negligible contribution from non-resonant in the Ds decay, in contrast with the Vertic data, where the non-resonant as well as the rho contribution are vanishing. The D+ results are instead in very good agreement. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Yangling Zhang Subject: A Case to Study Inelastic J/psi Photoproduction Est. Time: 15 min. Inelastic J/psi photoproduction is one of the ways to measure gluon density fun` nuclei. We are studying the feasibility of such an analysis in E687/E831. We wo` get some feedback from the collaboration on this issue. ============================================================================== AGENDA FROM THE E687 COLLABORATION MEETING March 17, 1995 Fermilab ============================================================================== From: FNAL::IN%"butler@fnjnbi.fnal.gov" "Joel Butler" 17-MAR-1995 00:00:27.07 To: IN%"e687@FNAL.FNAL.GOV" CC: Subj: Agenda for E687 part of meeting To: E687 Distribution From: Joel Butler Subject: E687 Meeting agenda Dear colleagues, The next group meeting will be on Friday March 17, and Saturday March 18. The first day will deal with E687 analysis. On Friday, the meeting will be 10 am in the Hornets Nest, WH11W. On Saturday we will also meet in the WH11W conference room. The starting time on Saturday will be 9 am. Below is the list of talk requests for the 687 part that I have received and the proposed agenda. --------------------------------------------------------------------- name: Jim Wiss (for Rodney Greene) topic: Review of APS KKpi Dalitz talk estimated time: 30 min. special requirements: None <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> We will show our proposed KKpi Dalitz talk for the APS April meeting. We will put the slides on the E687 Eyes_Only page. ---------------------------------------------- name: Luca topic: update on Lcstar/Sigmac paper estimated time: 25 minutes special requirements: none An updated version of the Lcstar/Sigmac paper is presented, reflecting the comments and suggestions outlined in the last review committee report. Mostly, the evidence for the Lcstar(308) signal is slightly enhanced by summing up contributions from other lambdac decay channels. Also, a new Sigmac-->Lambdac pi, Lambdac --> pKs signal is added to the total Sigmac sample to measure the Sigmac-Lambdac mass difference. Other issues addressed in the review committe reoprt will be addressed in the next future. ------------------------------------------------------------ name:Matt Nehring topic:Semileptonic decays in the IE estimated time:25 minutes special requirements:Friday morning <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> Analysis of the relative branching ratio BR(D0->pi e nu)/BR(D0->K e nu) will be presented. --------------------------------------------------- name:W.Johns topic:Particle Identification issues pertinent to the pimunu analysis(and others ) estimated time:30 min. special requirements: I will discuss improvements in particle identification using the Cerenkov and inner muon systems. These improvements are geared toward improving the pimunu "signal". ---------------------------------------------------------------- name: Kathy Danyo (UT) topic: Preliminary results on photoproduction of f1(1285)pi estimated time: 20 minutes <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> f1(1285) production has been observed in the channel gamma N ----> Ks K pi pi N', where the f1 decays to a0(980) pi and the a0 subsequently decays to Ks K. The f1 pi system appears to be consistent with an exotic hybrid resonance with JPC=1-+, which has been reported by Lee, et al. ------------------------------------------------------------------ name: Tom Handler topic: phi-phi photoproduction estimated time: 10 minutes special requirements: none <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> Preliminary results on the photoproduction of phi-phi final states will be presented. The data suggest the existence of two narrow high mass (> 2.0 GeV) states decaying into phi-phi. ----------------------------------------------------------- name: Daniele Brambilla topic: Monitoring the E687 spectrometer using the OE estimated time: 10 min special requirements: in the calorimetry section abstract: We analyzed the OE behavior for all the "global vertex" runs. We present a list of the ones we consider "bad runs" for the OE electrons: with this term we mean either runs in which the OE was not behaving properly (FASTBUS or HV problems or other) or runs in which there were spectrometer problems affecting the OE efficiency. ---------------------------------------------- name: Paul Lebrun topic: Comments on coherent production of rho and Omega estimated time: 25 min. special requirements: Some disturbing aspects of the Deck-Drel-Soding model are discussed. This model has been studied vs the photon energy and the decay angle. In essence, the Drell process seems to manifest itself only through it's interference with the Breit-Wigner, apparently violating unitarity. No solution for this puzzle are proposed. A preliminary, but probably final, measurement of the rho to Omega cross section ratio is given. Emphasis is placed on the method and the (unfortunately very large) systematic errors. -------------------------------------------------- name: Daniele Pedrini topic: Brief summary of the D0->KKpipi resonance analysis estimated time: 15 minutes special requirements: <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> A brief summary of the D0->KKpipi resonance analysis is presented. I will discuss the latest results obtained and the modifications proposed for the draft. The relative documents can be found in CMS_ROOT:[DOCUMENTS] : MEMO_RES2K2PI.PS, ADDENDUM_RES2K2PI.PS More info are also available in CMS_ROOT:[PAPERS] : D04BODY_COMMENTS.TXT ------------------------------------------------------------- name: Daniele Pedrini topic: The K3pi/Kpi problem. Simulation of the delta rays in the SSD : a first try. estimated time: 10 minutes special requirements: <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> The K3pi/Kpi ratio is revised on Milano sample to understand the low value found by Rob in the February Group Meeting. Two physical processes, the secondary hadronic interactions and the delta rays, which can alter this ratio are considered. A first try of simulating the delta rays in the SSD with a VERY VERY ROUGH model is then discussed and the results on the K3pi/Kpi ratio are presented. ---------------------------------------------- name: Peter H. Garbincius topic: Check of HC Gain using EHC Distributions est time: 5 minutes special: please schedule just before Zeyuan Wu As was suggested at the January 95 meeting in Milano, the HC gain can be estimated using the EHC distrbutions for DATA and MC simulation. This was done for the 1991 D* => pi (K3pi) sample. Although the ChiSq of the comparision between MC and Data is poor, (the MC distribution in EHC is wider than that of the DATA), good estimates of the average HC gain going into the HC trigger logic and of the uncertainty in the HC gain can be derived from this method. Combining this with the previously measured derivatives for the acceptance dAcceptance(k)/dHCgain, allows one to estimate the systematic uncertainty in the cross section due to uncertainty in the HC gain or trigger threshold. ---------------------------------------------- name: Zeyuan Wu topic: Status of cross section measurement estimated time: 30min special requirements: please just follow Peter G. <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> Targetting systematic uncertainty estimation from 4148,4146,4139,4132; "final" cross section results for D*(kpipi)+; comparison of momemtum distribution between MC and data for D0 and D*+; cross section results for D0(k3pi),D+,D*(K4pi)+,ccbar without systematic errors. ---------------------------------------------- name: Paul Sheldon topic: Rare Charm Decay Efficiencies and Double Counting estimated time: 20 minutes Do we understand our efficiency for Rare Charm Decays? For most modes, we appear to. One issue that arose at the last meeting was possible "double counting", due to mis-identification. We believe we understand this now and it appears to be a problem only for modes with a like sign pion and electron. We will present the results of further investigations into this problem. ------------------------------------------------------ name: Jianwei Cao topic: Rare Charm Decay estimated time: 20 minutes Results on rare charm decays will be presented, including a new method for setting the limits. OE electrons have not been included in all modes, but we hope to show at least one mode to show that it is possible. ---------------------------------------------- name: Marco Marchesotti topic: Very preliminary analysis of D+ -> k0long 3 pions using the Hadron calorimeter to measure the direction of the k0L estimated time: 20 min special requirements: possibly afternoon <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> We have analysed the 1990 data to look for D(+)-> K0 pi+pi+pi- where the k0 is detected in the Hadron calorimeter, just to check whether the HC could be used to measure something differnt from the Sigma hyperons, using the neural network presented by G.L.Gerard at the Frascati meeting in may 1994. It seems that we are having encouraging results that we would like to present in a very preliminary way to the collaboration. We observe about 50 events above background in the 1990 sample. ---------------------------------------------- name: Gary Grim topic: Ds -> K+,pi-,pi+ estimated time: 20 min special requirements: That this be the most excruciating talk of the day. Please schedule it late, before dinner and make sure everyone checks their Tylenol at the door. <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>> The status of the Ds -> K+,pi-,pi+ analysis wil be presented. ---------------------------------------------- name: Ky Kim topic: First evidence of the resonant structure in LambdaC+ -> Lmabda 3pi decay estimated time: 10 mins special requirements: None <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> The first evidence of the resonant structure in LambdaC+ -> Lambda 3pi decay will be presented briefly. ---------------------------------------------- ============================================================================== AGENDA FROM THE E687 COLLABORATION MEETING Feburary 10, 1995 Fermilab ============================================================================== To: E831/E687 Distribution From: Joel Butler Subject: E687 Talk requests received so far Dear colleagues, The next group meeting will be on Friday February 10, and Saturday February 11. Menasce Topic: Almost final results on 3pi Dalitz analysis Estimated time: 30 min Special requirements: Extra strong coffee against boredom... <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> Results are presented on the 3pi Dalitz analysis for the D+ and Ds+. Extensive studies have been performed to assess the quality of fits; it is shown that the the best fit for the D+ is obtained with a coherent sum of non-resonant, rho and f0(980), while for the Ds+ with a sum of f2(1270), f0(980) and f0(1300) with negligible contributions from rho and non-resonant. Preliminary estimate of the source and amount of systematic error is also been given. ---------------------------------------------- name: Tzufen (Tony) Lin topic:The Status of BR(p4pi/pkpi) estimated time:10 mins special requirements:Friday morning please <<<<< ABSTRACT FOR CMS VERSION OF AGENDA>>>>> ---------------------------------------------- name: Paul Lebrun topic: Diffractive Physics with photoproduced rho-omega. estimated time: 20 to 30 min. special requirements: none Abstract: The phenomenology of elastic rho-omega photoproduction will be briefly reviewed. These studies can either be motivated as a way to accuratly calibrate various spectrometer features, or to tackle high precision Strong Interaction physics. A status report on the measurement of the Branching ratio of the G-parity violating decay omeage(782) -> pi+ pi- will be given. I will concentrate mostly on what's not yet written in memos, that is, the invariance of the parameter vs sqrt(s), and methods to determine the rho to Omega cross section ratio. Johns topic:Kmunu and other analyses estimated time:20 min. special requirements: - Wrap up of the Kmunu analyses(f-/f+ measurement plots to show). Would also like to show an updated pimunu tagged signal. ---------------------------------------------- name: Rob topic: Further work on the production asymmetry paper estimated time: 30 min special requirements: Some may need an air sickness bag abstract: Previously we discussed production asymmetries in soft-pi tagged events and presented evidence for "color drag". When examined by topolgy we found the MC underestimated the (soft-pi,D+) yield by factor >2. Data/MC disagreement was also found in a subsequent production fraction study of high statistics Knpi. This has lead us to re-examine the issue of post-hoc corrections. ---------------------------------------------- ============================================================================== AGENDA FROM THE E687 COLLABORATION MEETING January 5, 1995 Milan ============================================================================== Dear colleagues, Below is the list of talk requests received so far. I find that while the pkpi data behaves similarly under a common set of cuts in 90 and 91, the lambda 3pi data does not, and different sets of cuts must be used to uncover significant signals in 90 and 91. However, the 90 and 91 branching ratios are consistent with each other. ---------------------------------------------- name: Gabriele Gianini topic: Multiplicity Studies estimated time: 20 min abstract: The progress in multiplicity studies of inelastic non single-diffractive events is reported. The angular acceptance of the tracking system is discussed. Problems in track counting such as influence of missing tracks, spurious tracks, electron identification are examined. A correction procedure is considered. ---------------------------------------------- name: John Ginkel topic: 2 and 3 Ks estimated time: 10 min Abstract: I will present another update of the 2 and 3 Ks BR relative to Kspipi. I studied more carefully the stability of the signals by varying cuts and bin widths, and find them to be consistent within statistical errors. ---------------------------------------------- name: W.Johns topic:Kmunu update estimated time:20 min special requirements:- abstract: Since November of 1992, several aspects of the $D^{0}\to K^{-}\mu^{+}\nu_{\mu}$ analysis for the 1990 and 1991 data have been investigated. This memo describes the fitting method to determine both the yield and the pole mass associated with the decay. The results of the fit, a method to simulate misidentification in the muon system, and a new analysis that involves analyzing $K^{-}\mu^{+}$ vertices when no $D^{*}$ tag is present will be described. ---------------------------------------------- name: Paul Lebrun topic: Status report on Light Quark Skim and Analysis. estimated time: 20 min. abstract: A brief status report on what one could do with ~130 millions low multiplicity clean hadronic events is given. As this is work in progress, no final memo has been written yet. It is shown that TRIG1 rho's can be very effectively used to check our acceptance, as the spectrometer accepts them mostly on the edge of our geometrical acceptance, at low Hadronic energy and low multiplicity. Despite our very poor acceptance, E687 has the best rho(770) sample, allowing a detailed analysis of the rho-Omega interference. Integrated over all Pt, the effective B(Omega->2pi)/B(Omega->all) is found to be 0.9 +- .06 %. At Pt -> 0., this branching ratio becomes 2.4 +- 0.4 %, in agreement with the PDG. (Preliminary values !). This effect can be studied as a function of Pt ( 0., -> 1.) and sqrt(s) (7.5 Gev ->~ 13.). The next particle of interest will be the S*/f_0(975). Disgusting mass bumps will be shown, in the exclusive final states pi+ pi-, and pi+ pi- pi+ pi-. Emphasis should be placed on line shapes studies and kinematical conditions required to observe this final state. ---------------------------------------------- name: Matteo Boschini topic: D0 four body decays ( systematic errors and final results...) estimated time: 10 min special requirements: late on 30 June... abstract: We report the final results on the analysis of 4body decays of D0. These measurements were in apparent disagreement with previous measurements by E691 and CLEO. A somewhat more careful analysis has been completed (with help from Jian Wei Cao), using the most up-to-date MC and momentum dependent efficiency corrections. Using cuts chosen to maximize sensitivity to the mode and an initial analysis of systematic errors, the relative branching ratio is found to be RBR = 0.0607 +/- 0.0052 +/- 0.0030 This ratio is compared to previous measurements. Although it is smaller than previous ratios, it is not inconsistent. It is also the most sensitive determination of this ratio to date. ---------------------------------------------- name: Paul Sheldon topic: Systematic Errors: 3 Kaon Analysis estimated time: 15 minutes ABSTRACT A detailed study has been completed of potential systematic errors in the Vanderbilt version of the analysis of the four modes D+, Ds+ --> phi K+, K+K-K+. These include (1) uncertainty in the MC Kaon ID efficiency, (2) uncertainty in the number of reconstructed decays for the normalizing mode, and (3) uncertainty in the efficiency for each mode due to the produced D+ momentum spectrum in the MC. Item (2) is not strictly a systematic error, but is treated as one in order to include its effects in the limits set for each mode. The method used to include these systematic errors in the limits set will also be described. ---------------------------------------------- name: Peter H. Concentrated on dynamical variations of the asymmetry, and variations with cuts. Found more structure in Lund than in data. Also found Lund MC behaving differently depending on whether decay mode is selected or from a ccbar MC. This was subsequently shown to be due to correlations in Lund list and has been taken out by filter.
